Update 2 - Final Version

Just finished updating the second section of We Used To Be Friends!

This section will handle all the traits, basic moves, friendship moves, and future and impact moves. If it sounds like a lot, it is but they're all the moves every player will get to interact with.

Changes from the Ashcan

  • Open Up has been softened a little bit.
I had a lot of people complain that they didn't like the open up move because something bad always happened. It was a little harsh so I changed it so that if you get a 10+ you get something good and you can choose to get 2 good things in exchange for a bad thing happening. The 7-9 part of the move stayed the same but I did put in some more options.
  • Immediate moves became Impact moves.
It's just a title change, but I think it's important because it gives you a better sense of what the move is. It's a move that has an immediate effect on the story and the characters.
  • More examples for Future and Impact moves.
I tried to come up with some examples to illustrate what I mean. I was worried before that lists become restrictive for some folks, that they feel they can only choose something from the list. That said, the game did a lot more ways that it could help players who didn't fully get a collaborative game so I came up with some suggestions.

Friendship Moves

This gets its own section because it's a major change to what was going on before. Friendship Moves were what I put in to replace using Strings. The game is heavily influenced from Monsterhearts, and strings plays a big part there. But I thought it wasn't 100% what I wanted to have in a game and so I came up with Friendship moves and you could tell that it was the newer part of the game. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as integrated as the other stuff.

With that in mind, Friendship Moves are now much more a guide to running a scene.

You want to bring an ally in to help a situation, roll a Friendship move with a Close Friend, or Acquaintance.

Want to spice up a scene, roll a Friendship move with an Enemy or Rival.

You now get to take a bonus forward when you try to accomplish the benefit you choose, and depending on what kind of friend they are you may have to deal with some situations, but you always choose what kind of trouble you want.

Onto the next section, which is how to setup the game, and build your town.
