Update 12 - Yearbook Profile - The Gang Leader

Because my major influence with this game is Veronica Mars, when it came time to the Gang Leader it didn't make the Ashcan cut because it was the biggest problem out of all of them. The reason is was a problem was that it felt way more racialized than it needed to be (the answer is it needed to be zero percent racialized) because I had based it off of Weevil to a degree that I was comfortable with.

That means I spent a lot of time looking at this and wondering if I should cut the Yearbook Profile in its entirety. Then I went back to other games, like Monsterhearts, where there is the Queen and Apocalypse World with the Hard Holder which is more in keeping with the general idea I want with the Crew Leader. You have people who do the work for you, or you have people when you do the work who make it stronger.

The last thing the Crew Leader wants is to be by themselves.

Changes:

  1. Changing Gang Leader title to Crew Leader. I think it's a little more open there and has less connotations than gang leader.
  2. I wrote something that didn't get saved so I'll just sum it up here. You're not with us anymore became this really long winded move, and generally when you have a move that long ... surprise it's really two moves. There is a move now called Strength in Numbers which gives you a bonus on one roll an episode based on the number of crew in a scene. You're not with us anymore is more of a general hurting people with other effects involved.
  3. I changed I've Put People in the Hospital for Less so that it's more about intimidating someone as a defensive action for you or your crew. I also had a cliff hanger show up as an option if you wanted more from the 7-9 roll.
  4. Added "or they do something dangerous and risk with you" to the turn you on move Would you like it if I do this?
  5. Changed But for once, don't do this so that it has a kind of fortunetelling vibe. You can shut someone down for their own good and they can recover emotional conditions, or they can charge forward and gain XP.
  6. You know it's a good intimacy move when you read it after not having read it for so long and smile. It's really good.
  7. Downgraded the personal mysteries so they felt less like season mysteries and more personal.

I'm going to be playtesting this one some more before I'm fully happy with it, but this playbook got played by someone on an upcoming podcast episode I'll be able to tell you about when it goes live!
